Tweets from Brian Moody, a candidate for Academy District 20’s school board, reveal deeply concerning views on gender roles and women’s rights, raising serious questions about his suitability for public office and leadership in our diverse school district.
On March 26, 2024, Moody tweeted:
“By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness… Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. A man should get a job/make a living, protect his wife and kids from dangers, and generally lead. A woman should focus on rearing children. That is the DIVINE plan.”
This explicit endorsement of rigid, patriarchal family structures not only marginalizes women’s roles but potentially dismisses the validity of families who choose or require different arrangements. Moody’s advocacy for such outdated gender roles could lead to policies in our schools that fail to support or recognize the value of diverse family structures and career paths for all students.
Additionally, in a tweet dated March 31, 2024, Moody directly criticized feminism:
“Unfortunately the feminist movement pushed that shift too far and overcorrected. Men still need to play a lead role in marriage and family. That’s the divine design of human nature… men should set the tone of the direction of the family.”
Moody’s assertion here suggests that gender equality is an “overcorrection,” implying discomfort with progress toward equal rights and opportunities. Such views could translate into school board policies resistant to gender equality initiatives, potentially stunting programs that empower female students and staff.
His troubling remarks extend beyond traditional family dynamics. Moody engages in judgmental and derogatory commentary about women’s choices, exemplified by a tweet from July 5, 2024:

Publicly shaming and policing women’s attire suggests a deeply entrenched sexism that is highly inappropriate for anyone tasked with safeguarding a respectful, inclusive school environment.
Moody also displays problematic views regarding voting rights, aligning himself with radical proposals that could disenfranchise voters without children. On July 25, 2024, he tweeted approval of Senator JD Vance’s controversial idea:
“Wow. This is bold. A little crazy even and completely impractical. But I love it.”
This proposal explicitly aims to diminish the electoral power of non-parents, undermining fundamental democratic equality.
Furthermore, Moody has expressed troubling thoughts on sensitive marital issues. In a tweet dated June 10, 2024, he stated:
“A spouse needs to be prepared to go without sex if their partner becomes disabled in some way. But short of that sex should [be] a reasonable expectation.”
This view oversimplifies complex marital dynamics and potentially contributes to unhealthy and unrealistic expectations, again signaling a lack of nuanced, empathetic leadership.
Moody’s documented tweets illustrate clearly defined biases and deeply entrenched patriarchal perspectives. Such views raise significant concerns about his capability to serve effectively on a school board that must represent and advocate fairly for a diverse student body, staff, and community.
Academy District 20 voters must carefully consider the consequences of electing leaders whose public statements consistently reflect regressive, exclusionary attitudes. Our students, families, educators, and broader community deserve thoughtful, inclusive, and equitable leadership, qualities that Moody’s own words starkly contradict.
