Brian Moody Publicly Denies Documented LGBTQ Segregation Proposal: A Critical Breach of Trust for Academy District 20 Voters

Brian Moody, a candidate for the Academy District 20 school board and chairman of Advocates for D20 Kids, is caught in a clear contradiction between documented evidence and his public statements.

On the social media platform Nextdoor, Moody explicitly claimed:

“I’m not for segregating LGBT kids and that was never a proposal made by me or anyone associated with me.”

However, official records from a September 15, 2022, private meeting between Moody, representatives of Advocates for D20 Kids, and Academy District 20 administrators directly refute his denial. Notes and emails obtained through a Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) request confirm that during this meeting, Moody’s associate, Don Spano, proposed creating separate schools or campuses specifically for LGBTQ students, suggesting “traditional” campuses for non-LGBTQ students and “non-traditional” campuses for LGBTQ students and staff.

These documented facts directly contradict Moody’s public denial. The evidence clearly shows Moody not only organized and led the meeting but also personally expressed concerns about district policies favoring LGBTQ students, indicating he was fully aware of the discussions that took place.

Moody’s insistence on publicly denying involvement in these controversial discussions, despite overwhelming documented proof, represents a troubling breach of public trust. It raises urgent questions about his honesty, integrity, and accountability as a potential school board leader.

For Academy District 20 voters, this isn’t merely about disagreements over policy—it’s about fundamental honesty and transparency from someone seeking to govern our schools and influence the lives of our community’s children.

As voters weigh their decisions, they must critically evaluate Moody’s willingness to openly mislead the public about his involvement in deeply controversial proposals. Integrity, honesty, and accountability should not be negotiable qualities for any candidate entrusted with leadership over our schools and our children’s futures.
